Monthly Food-Shelf Drive
Do you remember what you got for Christmas
last year. Larry
and Nancy DeCoux remember? Pondering Christmas, both felt blessed and
decided what would make them happy was helping others. So, they gave to the foodshelf
instead of themselves. And, they gave an
idea to Hope Church. Every month Hope
Church collects a different item for the food shelf. For June it is Juices and Fruit. For July – Pasta.
Since January
carloads of food have been taken to the food shelf. The need is critical. Use of the Food Shelf in Faribault is up. Overall donations are down. At Hope UMC we are taking seriously that one
day we may find ourselves asking Jesus, “When have we seen you hungry and given
you bread or thirsty and given you drink?”
If you remember Jesus responded, “Whenever you have given to the least
of these, you have given unto me.”
Do you have a
ministry idea? At Hope UMC the ministry ideas
that take off are the ones where someone says first, “I have an idea!” Then, “Do you mind if a few of us try to make
it happen.” Larry and Nancy said, “We’ll
advertise it, get the boxes and deliver the food to start with.” Sometimes all it takes to bring out our best,
giving and Christ-like selves are a few people willing to remind us of ways to
serve. Thanks Larry and Nancy: and to all who take an idea, share it and try
it.
